Westminster will partner with Google Fiber to bring its fiber-to-the-building network to the city. This new partnership will bring another high-quality high-speed broadband service provider for the city’s residents and businesses, and further narrow the digital divide for our community.
Google Fiber will begin construction of the new fiber optic network in the city’s rights of way and easements in 2023, with service available as segments of the network are completed. The construction project will implement micro-trenching along the public side of the street which will lower potential impact to the community during construction. Ahead of breaking ground, Google Fiber will work closely with the City to develop communications materials to inform neighborhoods. This will include a construction hotline, door hangers, signage, and communications to stakeholders such as homeowners’ associations and neighborhood groups.
In addition to offering gigabit high-speed internet service, Google Fiber participates in the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program, which helps keep families connected to internet services. Eligible Westminster households could receive a monthly subsidy of up to $30 toward the cost of high-speed internet service.
Along with Lakewood, Westminster joins a select group of cities nationwide where Google Fiber will deploy its 100% fiber optic internet service. To learn more about GFiber in Westminster including pricing, please review this FAQ document.
