Business Legacy
The City recognizes and celebrates those businesses in Westminster that have been in operation for 25 years or longer, in five-year increments. These businesses are celebrated during the annual Business Appreciation Awards luncheon and provided with an award for their commitment to our community.
The Community Spirit Award is an opportunity to recognize businesses who are making outstanding contributions to the community by supporting events, programs, or initiatives that benefit the City of Westminster and its residents. This award also recognizes the work that they are doing to make our community more vibrant, resilient, and foster a spirit of service.
The SAGE Sustainable Business Program helps local businesses save money, conserve resources, and support the local economy through connecting businesses with funds, technical assistance, and services that address topics such as energy and water conservations, waste management, and employee commuting. SAGE Businesses are also celebrated for their achievements through a certification program and recognition events such as these.
Westminster City Council would like to thank our businesses for everything they do, and provide, to make Westminster the community it is.
Small Business Saturday
2024 Small Business Saturday | Saturday, November 30, 2024
At the City Council meeting on Monday, November 25, the City proclaimed November 30, 2024 as Small Business Saturday as part of the national effort to recognize and support the Shop Small Campaign. The Shop Small Campaign demonstrates the City’s ongoing commitment to local, small businesses and Chelsea Elder (center) and Jessica Rutherford (right) of Adaptive Adventures, were present to accept the proclamation.
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010, during the midst of the Great Recession, to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. This day falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is a day designed to support local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve historic neighborhoods.
This effort to highlight small businesses has paid off with Small Business Saturday sales reaching around $17 billion in 2023, according to the American Express 2022 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey. The survey also found that 72 percent of shoppers said that the day makes them want to shop and dine at small, independently owned retailers and restaurants all year-long.
The City supports and encourages small business development and an entrepreneurial spirit by providing financial resources, technical assistance, and advocacy to our local businesses.
Our business community is filled with the “Best of the Best” and have the awards and accolades to back it up. Check out and cheer on your fellow businesses below!
